As you may know, last night was Keshvar Project’s Hot Desert Hafla at the York St Cafe. Not surprisingly, they were beyond amazing – tight music, graceful and playful…I simply can’t say enough. In addition to Keshvar Project and Dante’s, Katherine Robb and Rebecca Hale performed, also impeccably.
One thing that I heard repeated throughout the night was the surprise at how many old friends had shown up…many of which we shared Beginner’s I with at the now-closed Center for World Rhythms and Movement. Ironically, we in Dante’s had chosen to pay homage to those years that gave us a foundation in belly dance by incorporating bits and pieces of iconic moves and wearing our old-school tribal gear that we still love so much. So it was extra special to see those who we’ve not been able to see and dance with week to week, session to session, hafla to hafla. I took as many pictures as I could when I wasn’t on the dance floor, and of course, wish I had taken more. They’re posted on our Facebook page now (sorry – having technical difficulties today with uploading images to this site). If you have pics you’d like to share, post a link here, or on our page – I’m sure everyone would love to see them.
Anyway, thanks to everyone who came to the show. Thanks to Keshvar Project for hosting and putting so much work into an amazing evening. And, thank you for visiting this post.
