Thank You, WordPress | A Look At Our 2011 Online Statistics

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2011 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 2,400 times in 2011. If it were a cable car, it would take about 40 trips to carry that many people.

Oh, What a Night!

If you felt the earth shake a little this last week, I can guess that it was during Zahara’s Carnival Noir / Club Bellydance at the Carnegie. In addition to Zahara’s Tangled Web and Dante’s Gypsy Circus, Cincinnati performers such as Aloysius Fox, Alhambra, Anaya Gypsy, Matt the Mime and Loren the Black took the stage, opening for the fabulous Bellydance Superstars.

Laura, Cherie Dawn, and Britney played the role of princesses (yes, we wore white and pink!) in Dante’s interpretation of “Sleeping Beauty,” choreographed specifically for this show. Photo by David Scorcher, courtesy Metromix.com.

Ladi Blaze played the part of the witch who cast a spell on our trio of princesses. (Aren’t the horns cool? She made those herself!)ย  Photo by David Scorcher, courtesy Metromix.com.

The goddess of dark (Zahara is front, right), taking her final bow with the entire cast of the show. You can see Dex to the far right; she played the role of our goblin, who naughtily woke the princesses before any prince even had a chance. ๐Ÿ™‚

After putting on a beautiful show, the Bellydance Superstars hung out with everyone as we shopped, listened to music, and mingled. Here, they posed with Dante’s. ๐Ÿ™‚

“Being back on that stage, solo, was a twist of fate, an act of bravery, and an effort to make some Peace with the Universe,” said our dear friend Loren the Black, who stole our hearts during his a capella rendition of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” He’s posing here after the show with Cherie Dawn and Ladi Blaze.

What Was and What Will Be

Thanks to everyone who came to Darkotica this past Thursday night, and to the Loveland Castle on Saturday. We’ve been busy this month, and have several more things up our sleeves for the next few weeks. We’d also like to thank our friends who came out and took photos and video clips from the performances; Mayan Ruins accompanied us for both gigs this past week, so if you haven’t heard their music yet, click here to see their Facebook fan page for the vids. ๐Ÿ™‚

Over the next couple of weeks we’ll be busy rehearsing for Carnival Noir at Club Bellydance Cincinnati; but in the meantime one of our dancers can be found adding ambiance in the smokeย  lounge at the steampunk themed Time Traveler’s Ball this Saturday night in Newport, Kentucky. Saturday afternoon we’re happy to be accompanying Circus Mojo during a community festival in Ludlow.

October 1, don’t miss Cirque du Yelp – while the event is officially full, there is a wait list available. Everybody loves Yelp, so we hope you’re able to get in to this party!

More to come later on shows, parties, andย  goings-on. ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks for taking the time to read this, and for supporting Dante’s. We wouldn’t be able to do this without you!

With love,
Cherie Dawn

Dante’s Goes to the Beach

So last night we performed at the Midsummer Cabaret. What an enchanting evening! There were many beautiful people there, and many were in elaborate costumes complete with masks. Late into the night, as the last shuttle was leaving the castle and the DJ was playing his last songs, Britney mentioned that she and Pokes were going to a nearby lakeside beach and invited the rest of us in Dante’s too.

As luck would have it, almost all of us were free and so this afternoon we packed up our picnic baskets and grabbed our swimsuits for an afternoon of swimming, eating watermelon, playing and bonding until the sun had set. It was such a beautiful day that I want to share a few pictures. Enjoy!

Here we go for another of Earth’s rotations as the trees rise to the sun!

Tonight we jammed with a new friend – keep your eyes open for him at a future gig!

Laura, Dex, Britney, Cherie, Flam, Mayra Escobedo (a brave and friendly dance-observer-turned-participant), and Megan. Thanks to Flam for laying down a beat, and to Mayra for joining us in the sand!

Peace,
Cherie Dawn

Pictures from the Northside Rock-n-Roll Carnival

This past weekend we were honored to perform for our third year at the Northside Rock-n-Roll Carnival (Ohio). This year we added pantomiming to our set, in addition to our standard fare of belly dancing and fire arts.

Many thanks to David Scorcher from MetroMix for these captivating images!

Dante’s demo video

Granted, most of the performers in this video no longer actually perform with Dante’s, we’re still proud to share our first ever demo video. Props go to Dex for editing the footage, and in case you’re wondering, the badass music is by Raquy and the Cavemen.

Enjoy! In the meantime, we’re working on a more current promo vid. ๐Ÿ™‚
