The Accidental Circus On East Coast Tour

Press Release from the Accidental Circus:

The Accidental Circus On East Coast Tour in January, 2012

How do you celebrate your engagement and 10th anniversary in one year? If you’re fire eating jester Paolo Garbanzo and torch-singing belly dancer Onça O’Leary, you jump in your vardo with eight international vaudeville stars armed with spankin’ new acts of fame and fortune and bring the party to every town you meet.

Join The Accidental Circus for an evening of Darwinism in Action & Luscious Cabaret. Collaborators since 2002, they are once again on the warpath to hilarity, touring in January of 2012. As ever, this show promises danger and humor, beauty and song, and weird social commentary ~ all in the first act.

Accidental Circus, New Orleans, Mezmer Society

Paolo Garbanzo, Jester of England’s Muncaster Castle.
Mab Just Mab, DC’s Own Sideshow Girl.
The Mezmer Society, Asheville, NC.
Sidetracked Theatre, Philadelphia, PA.
Darbuka Dave, Huntsville, AL.

Ringleader & Juggler extraordinaire Paolo Garbanzo, fresh from filming for his new reality TV series “World Wide Show-off”, is the first & only American to be an official Jester of a European castle. Touring Europe and the US year-round he presents original comedic material in three languages. Historical, hysterical, & interactive, Paulo leads the AC as Benevolent Dictator for Life.

Mab Just Mab, DC’s Sideshow Girl, combines artistry and human endurance. A glasswalker, escape artist, and world record holding blockhead, she is the tenured freak at DC’s notorious sideshow venue & museum, The Palace of Wonders. Mab has been featured in several documentaries and books on the sideshow revival, and is a pillar of the Cheeky Monkey Sideshow.

The Mezmer Society demonstrates to the general public that, after a 60 year hiatus, it is once more permissible to dance to an accordion. Hard-riding highwaymen of mayhem, they missionize the Mezmer gospel throughout the States. Bellydance, torchsongs, & sinister accordionism are blended at high speed into a tall, cool, glass of delicious & intoxicating performance.

Sidetracked’s two-woman bowls the crowd over with high-integrity, rapid-fire, two-person comedic storytelling. They’re rejuvenate the classic Vaudeville genre… with badass sensibility.

Darbuka Dave is the Juggernaut of Comedy, a genetic freak, & a brilliant percussionist who travels the country, teaching & performing to thrilled & nauseated audiences of every caliber.

Bring your loved ones to dazzle them. Bring your enemies because, well, anything is possible when 5 knives are in the air.

Dante’s Gypsy Circus is pleased to announce that we’re hosting the Accidental Circus during their 2012 Tour. Join us Friday, May 18 at Circus Mojo for an evening that is almost more fun than the law allows. Click here for details.

What Was and What Will Be

Thanks to everyone who came to Darkotica this past Thursday night, and to the Loveland Castle on Saturday. We’ve been busy this month, and have several more things up our sleeves for the next few weeks. We’d also like to thank our friends who came out and took photos and video clips from the performances; Mayan Ruins accompanied us for both gigs this past week, so if you haven’t heard their music yet, click here to see their Facebook fan page for the vids. 🙂

Over the next couple of weeks we’ll be busy rehearsing for Carnival Noir at Club Bellydance Cincinnati; but in the meantime one of our dancers can be found adding ambiance in the smoke  lounge at the steampunk themed Time Traveler’s Ball this Saturday night in Newport, Kentucky. Saturday afternoon we’re happy to be accompanying Circus Mojo during a community festival in Ludlow.

October 1, don’t miss Cirque du Yelp – while the event is officially full, there is a wait list available. Everybody loves Yelp, so we hope you’re able to get in to this party!

More to come later on shows, parties, and  goings-on. 🙂 Thanks for taking the time to read this, and for supporting Dante’s. We wouldn’t be able to do this without you!

With love,
Cherie Dawn

An Evening with Mayan Ruins: More Than Just a Show

This Thursday night marks the celebration of the tribal subculture in Cincinnati as Mayan Ruins, a psychedelic band known for its improvisational and communal nature, hosts Tribotica: Tribal/Goth Fusion at Darkotica.

Mayan Ruins,Psychedelic Tribal Music

Event creator Renea Frey had a vision when she began planning the evening. “I wanted to do this because there is so much cross-over between the neotribal and goth scene, and both of them fall, sociologically speaking, into the category of ‘neotribal formations’ which is a type of subculture,” she says. “I think that the two cultures have a lot in common (having been part of both of them for some time now) and that many in the goth scene, for instance, are looking for that ‘something more’ that the types of experience provided by Mayan Ruins and accompanying dancers offers.”

Zahara, Cincinnati’s queen of gothic belly dance, often performs with Mayan Ruins. In this particular show, Mayan Ruins, Zahara, and Dante’s Gypsy Circus will entertain everyone who’s ready to let go, mingle with like-minded folks, and rock out.

Doors open at 10:00pm, performance starts around 10:30.
$6 cover, 21+.

Fire and Water

Hey everybody! This Friday night is the kick-off for the first annual Feywill Music Festival, which will bring together 50+ bands in two nights throughout the historic Mainstrasse Village in Covington, Kentucky. Included in the entertainment is none other than yours truly, along with our esteemed peers Circus Mojo and Anaya Gypsy Dance.

You can download the entire schedule here; and find the event on Facebook here for updates.

So those are the nitty gritty details—here’s my favorite part: not only do you get to take in tons of awesome local music, support an exciting new event, and see unforgettable performances for two days, but you can also take the opportunity to dunk three of our very own belly dancers in the dunking booth on Saturday night beginning at 10:30. So, fire at 9:30, water at 10:30. Get it? Good. 😉

Matt Ogden, a coordinator for Feywill Music Festival, had this to say: “This weekend is going to be crazy!” Couldn’t have said it better myself. Mad props to everyone bringing this event together, including the sponsors: Makers Mark, Kentucky Ale, and Ale 81.

Also, WNKU rocks. You can take a moment to listen to a WNKU interview with event organizer Tony Pero for more details.

Friday $5; Saturday $7; Weekend passes $10. Hope to see you there!
